Tokyo, Kabuki-Za Theatre

Kabuki is representative of Japan's performing art. I thought kabuki had so very artistic quality, but as a matter of fact, its themes are love stories, ghost stories or comedies. After all, they are same old stories.
However Kabuki performers could evoke Kabuki's artistry. This point is fundamental to Kabuki and different from Soap Opera. Soap Opera might not own a theatre like Kabuki-Za. Hey, this is not a public bath.
I've seen a Kabuki performance only twice yet. More or less most Japanese are no better than me. The reasons are its archaic dialogue and fees. I can only understand whole dialogue through a commentated headset. And admission fee is from US$23(balcony seats) to US$153(box seats).

Comments:
I just found your site by accident since we share the same favorite film, Dr Strangelove. I've never been to Singapore, but enjoyed the $20 seats in the back of Kabuki-za when I was last in Japan.

It was almost as much fun as a torchlight Noh performance at Heian Jingu in Kyoto.

Good luck with your English studies and other pursuits.

P.S. Not about Kabuki, but...

There was an interesting documentary on Peter Sellers recently. from HBO Films. I doubt you can find it in Singapore since his life was perhaps more on the edge. It is a bit of a sad story, but is interesting regardless.

Dr. Drew,
Thank you for visitting my blog.
I'm very glad that you are interested in Japanese culture.

The cinema you introduced me would be must-see one.

Takeshi-san,

The name of the film is "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers," starring Geoffrey Rush. I got a copy via e-bay. I could mail it to you if you can get it back to me (and if you e-mail me your address). I wonder if you could see it because of DVD world type (1) or if it would be censored en route to Singapore.

Ciao,
Drew

Dr. Drew,

I'm visiting Bangkok now, and go back Japan this April. So I plan to buy Japanese version if it goes on sale then.
That's very kind of you.

Regards,
Takeshi
